Description:

This vintage glass ashtray is from pressed glass. It has perfect lines and a simple, still stylish design. The ashtray is a wonderful collector piece but also a useful and decorative accessory in every smoking household. The vintage glass ashtray is in great condition. There are no dents or other damages, just a couple of signs of age. The ashtray is from the time of Art Deco but is unknown from which country it comes.

The beginning of producing pressed glass items dates back to 1850. These glasswares were manufactured in cast-iron moulds and were marketed as an economical alternative to hand-cut crystals. They were also cheaper, so they quickly became popular. Manufacturers had to make many patterns to stand out from each other.

Art Deco was an international design and art movement in the 1920s and 1930s. The style was a rejection of the organic, naturalistic sensibility of Art Nouveau. Art Deco items are famous for their symmetry and straight lines. The movement wanted to bring order to the natural world with those elements.
